Pound Seizure in Ontario and Quebec

Importing and Exporting of Cats and Dogs For Testing

Importing and Exporting of Cats and Dogs For Testing

Did you know that cats and dogs are sold to laboratories for testing purposes from pounds and shelters across Ontario? Did you know Quebec allows this as well? The practice is called 'Pound Seizure'. The seized animals will be subjected to cruel and painful experiments, some lasting for years! Once they are too ill or weak to endure any further experimentation they are put to death, ending their miserable existence. THIS NEEDS TO STOP! Ontario and Quebec are the greatest offenders of this shameful practice however this happens across Canada sadly.

***Abused, neglected, and discarded animals are prime candidates for pound seizure. Please ensure your pet is microchipped and has up-to-date identification. Some family pets have ended up in laboratories! See Project Jessie.***

Importing and Exporting of Cats and Dogs For Testing

Pound seizure occurs daily, and in fact in Ontario it is the law. Yet many pounds and shelters refuse to give up animals for this purpose. In response, Ontario and Quebec have begun importing animals from each other, and from other provinces. Sadly, animals are also exported to countries like France and Great Britain. Statistics

Importing and Exporting of Cats and Dogs For Testing

Take Action!

In 2015, 9,573 dogs and 5,035 cats were used for experimentation across Canada. In 2016, 15,093 dogs and 8,526 cats were used for experimentation, that's almost double! Source: 2015 and 2016 CCAC Animal Data Report.

For 2017, CCAC reports 11,045 dogs and 5,879 cats used for experimentation.

The 2018 CCAC report states 14,283 dogs and 6,082 cats used for experimentation.

The 2019 CCAC report states 12,195 dogs and 5,894 cats used for experimentation.

The published CCAC data indicates an alarming upward trend in using animals for experimentation.

Many types of animals are used including primates, birds, pigs, mice, cattle, etc.

Did you know that less than 50% of animal tested drugs make it to market? This is due to the differences between humans and animals, a wasteful practice.

Confining animals in zoos and forcing them to perform in circuses and marine parks is barbaric. Please consider avoiding these kinds of attractions and not giving them your money.
